A significant dimension of the apostasy among God’s people today is an utter lack of concern about justice.

Isaiah 28:12-23 warns God’s people they have made a refuge for themselves, a refuge constructed of lies and deceptions. They think they “have struck a bargain to cheat death and have made a deal to dodge the grave.” But all they actually have done is take refuge in the lie that they can have salvation without doing justice.

God’s warning is more than stern: “I will test you with the measuring line of justice and the plumb line of righteousness. … I will cancel the bargain you made to cheat death, and I will overturn your deal to dodge the grave.”

The Lord offered his people a place of quiet rest, a firm, tested foundation stone on which it is safe to build. But the people preferred their own refuge, a bed they made themselves that is too short to lie down on.

Because God’s people ignore his requirement of doing justice, his judgment will be severe: They will be trampled into the ground and carried away by constant flooding.

The Bible makes it very clear: On Judgment Day, the people going to heaven are the ones who fed the hungry, gave drink to the thirsty, welcomed the stranger, clothed the naked, cared for the sick, and visited the prisoner. (Matthew 25:34-40)

You don’t have to look far to see complacent, self-absorbed Christians who aren’t lifting a finger to help people in desperate need. What will happen to them when the measuring line of justice is applied?
